Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will chair the historic e-distribution ceremony of 58 lakh ownership property cards on December 27, 2024. This event will mark an important milestone in India’s rural empowerment and governance journey. The Prime Minister will distribute property cards in nearly 50,000 villages across 10 states and 2 union territories. The ceremony will also be a significant achievement in the ongoing distribution of over 2 crore property cards under the Swamitva Scheme.
During the event, the Prime Minister will interact with selected beneficiaries and deliver a nationwide address through video conferencing. Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh aka Lalan Singh, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, and Secretary of the Panchayati Raj Ministry, Shri Vivek Bhardwaj, will also be present.
Key Achievements of the Swamitva Scheme
The goal of the Swamitva Scheme is to provide property rights recognition to rural areas using drone and GIS technology. So far, drone mapping has been completed in 3.17 lakh villages, and over 2.19 crore property cards have been distributed across 1.49 lakh villages. This initiative has established digital property records, strengthening governance at the village level.
The property cards have provided rural citizens with access to institutional loans, promoting financial inclusion. Furthermore, women have benefited from increased financial and social security through legal property ownership.
A Transformational Step for Rural India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swamitva Scheme on April 24, 2020. Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, this initiative has empowered rural India by recognizing property rights. The scheme is contributing to economic development, stability, and financial inclusion in rural areas, leading to improved infrastructure planning and governance in villages.
