Bastar’s Revival: CM Vishnu Deo Sai Highlights Development and Cultural Preservation
Inauguration and Foundation of ₹356 Crore Projects in Jagdalpur
Raipur/Jagdalpur >>Bastar, known for its serene natural beauty, rich tribal culture, and peaceful environment, is regaining its original identity, said Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. Speaking at the inauguration and foundation stone-laying ceremony of development projects worth ₹356.44 crore at the PG College Hostel Ground in Jagdalpur, the CM highlighted the global recognition Bastar has received, with Dhurmaras village being ranked among the world’s top 20 tourist villages by the United Nations Tourism Organization.
The event included the inauguration and foundation stone laying of 288 projects and distribution of financial assistance and materials worth over ₹1.55 crore to beneficiaries under various government schemes.
Commitment to Bastar’s Growth
Chief Minister Sai reaffirmed his government’s commitment to Bastar’s progress, emphasizing the provision of essential infrastructure and resources. He cited the fulfillment of promises made under Modi’s Guarantee, with most pledges delivered within a year of the government’s tenure. The CM announced the approval of 15,000 additional PM Awas Yojana houses for Bastar’s vulnerable regions following a request to the central government.
Progress in Housing Initiatives
Highlighting housing development, the CM noted that PM Modi had guaranteed 18 lakh PM Awas Yojana homes. Within days of assuming office, the state government sanctioned housing for landless families, with many homes nearing completion and beneficiaries moving in. On January 7, during Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s visit to Chhattisgarh, additional beneficiaries will receive housing support.
Development in Naxal-Affected Areas
The CM also spoke about the Niyad Nella Nar initiative, which focuses on developing villages within a 5 km radius of security camps. The program ensures rapid implementation of 53 welfare schemes and 28 community services across 17 departments.
Education and Language Inclusivity
Chhattisgarh has implemented the National Education Policy, with teaching now available in 18 local languages, including Halbi and Gondi in Bastar. Additionally, MBBS education in Hindi has been introduced to benefit aspiring doctors. Under the PM Shri School Scheme, 341 schools are being modernized for advanced education.
Urban and Rural Development
The CM highlighted ₹7,000 crore allocated for urban development within the first year, with continuous progress in rural areas as well.
₹50 Crore for Water Supply in Bastar Nagar Panchayat
Deputy CM Arun Sao announced ₹50 crore for clean drinking water under the AMRUT Mission in Bastar Nagar Panchayat. Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap attributed rapid development to the “double-engine government” at the center and state levels, led by PM Modi and CM Sai.
The event was attended by Revenue Minister Tankaram Verma, Jagdalpur MLA Kiran Singh Deo, Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap, and other public representatives, dignitaries, and local residents.
