Mrs. Divya Nishad, a Lakhpati Didi from Kusmi village in Rajnandgaon district, will attend the At-Home Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on Republic Day, January 26, 2025. President Droupadi Murmu will honor her at the event. Despite challenging circumstances, Mrs. Nishad has achieved remarkable success through the National Livelihood Mission, Bihan. She expressed her joy and pride at being selected, calling it a moment of honor for her and her family.

Mrs. Nishad shared her story of resilience, recounting how the sudden demise of her husband during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 left her in financial distress. Without experience or resources, she faced immense challenges. With encouragement from women in her group, she decided to take charge of her family and joined Bihan under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, which brought transformative changes to her life.

With newfound confidence, Mrs. Nishad learned various skills during training, such as banking operations, bookkeeping, and small business management. She became an active member of the Jai Maa Ambe Self-Help Group, gaining leadership roles and starting small ventures. She now earns over ₹4 lakh annually, engaging in diverse activities. Apart from being a “Bank Sakhi” and “Bank Mitra,” she runs a saree and children’s clothing shop and has started a grocery store at home with group loans. Her success enabled her to build a permanent house and pursue additional livelihood activities like tailoring.

Notably, 10 Lakhpati Didis from across the country have been selected to attend the At-Home Reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Republic Day. Mrs. Nishad is the only representative from Rajnandgaon district. This initiative under the Lakhpati Didi Scheme by the central government aims to empower women economically, offering interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh to start their businesses.
