Memorandum of Understanding for Compressed Biogas Plants in Six Municipal Corporations of Chhattisgarh on 17th January

Raipur >>A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed on 17th January at 10 AM in the Chief Minister’s residence office in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai. The MOU will be between the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority (CBDA), Gail India Limited (GAIL), and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) for the establishment of compressed biogas plants for biogas production from urban solid waste in six municipal corporations of Chhattisgarh: Ambikapur, Raigarh, Korba, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, and Dhamtari. Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw will also be present at the event.
The agreements for establishing compressed biogas plants in Ambikapur, Raigarh, and Korba will be signed between the respective municipal corporations, CBDA, and GAIL India Limited. Similarly, agreements for plants in Bilaspur, Dhamtari, and Rajnandgaon will be signed between the respective municipal corporations, CBDA, and BPCL.
Approximately 350 metric tons of urban solid waste and about 500 metric tons of surplus biomass will be used to produce around 70 metric tons of compressed biogas daily in these municipal corporations. A total investment of Rs. 600 crore for the establishment of these plants will be made by GAIL and BPCL. These plants are expected to create direct and indirect employment equivalent to about 2 lakh human days annually in the state. Additionally, the organic fertilizer produced as a by-product will promote organic farming in the state. There will be a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, leading to a cleaner environment.
