Pollution Check Centers to Be Set Up at Petrol Pumps in Chhattisgarh
Raipur >>To control environmental pollution, vehicle emission testing centers (PUC) will now be established at petrol pumps across Chhattisgarh. Petroleum companies have agreed to this initiative, making it easier for vehicle owners to obtain PUC certificates without searching for separate centers. This step is expected to help control air pollution from vehicles and significantly contribute to environmental protection in the state.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, in a transport department review meeting on February 4, 2025, directed officials to take effective measures to curb air pollution caused by vehicle emissions. Following his instructions, Transport Secretary & Transport Commissioner S. Prakash and Additional Transport Commissioner D. Ravishankar chaired a crucial meeting on February 7, 2025. Senior officials from Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, and Reliance Industries participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, representatives from petroleum companies agreed to set up pollution testing centers at their petrol pumps. This decision aligns with the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Central Government, aiming to regulate air pollution and safeguard public health. The meeting was attended by Indian Oil Corporation’s Chief Manager Upendra Giri, Bharat Petroleum’s Chief Manager B. Devkumar, Reliance Industries Limited’s Manager Shreyas Gupta, Hindustan Petroleum’s Chief Manager Gautam Kumar, along with officials from the transport department and petroleum companies.
